Using Rapid Prototyping to Make Plastic Molds

How to Make Rapid Rrototyping

How to make rapid protyping is an interesting topic. Molds are designed so that can be used as a template to further create a large number of products with the same length, breadth, width and pattern but the final product can be of different material, color and texture. The plastic rapid prototyping can be made of various materials like rubber, metal polyphenolcarbonate or plastic.

How to Make the Plastic Molds in a Step by Step Manner?

Initially the object to be casted has to be decided. Then the container for preparing the mold is set up. The raw material for creating the rapid prototype model has to be finalized. The raw material for the mold, like the alginate, plastic or rubber and other safety measures like masks, gloves are taken. Plastic molds can be prepared form latex, silicon, rapid, foam rubber etc. Each plastic mold can be used to duplicate the object in plastic. This is an inexpensive procedure and not a tedious, time consuming process. We can carve our own compounds with our designs and use it for mold preparation.

The Second Step to Make Plastic Molds

The second step is very important because you should add water according to the different materials. For alginate molds, alginate mixed with water in the ratio of 1:1.25 in a mixing container and poured into the mold making container and allowed to set. Immerse the object, for which mold needs to be prepared into the container for eight minutes. Then remove the object. The mold is thus prepared and now is ready for casting. Liquid plastic can be casted into the mold. Before pouring plastic resin, releasing agent has to be added to the mold. Initially the Part A solution, containing smooth cast 300 liquid plastic casting resin is mixed with part B solution equally and mixed in a container and poured into the mold created and left for some time. The colorless liquid then solidifies into a white solid which then sets properly on the mold. After few hours, the plastic final product is removed from the mold.

The third Step to Make Plastic Molds

Last but not the least; prototype product gives a physical dimension to the business solution. A function prototype product demonstrates how our final finished product will actually work. Special software like the Microsoft Visio or Omni outliner and photo editing programs like GIMP, adobe Photoshop are required. Photoshops are used to create the mock-ups and redefine it according to customer specification.
